Installing Fedlet Linux on aspire switch 10 a baytrail hybrid netbook tablet
My model: Aspire Switch 10 sw5-011 (there are other models like SW5-012-146V it seems)- 2 GB RAM
- 32 GB storage
- + 500 GB hard disk in the keyboard
The up-to-date page : https://www.happyassassin.net/fedlet-a-fedora-remix-for-bay-trail-tablets/
Following Fedlet :
- https://www.happyassassin.net/category/fedlet/ doc and announces
- https://github.com/AdamWill/baytrail-m dev
Downloading Fedlet:
- https://adamwill.fedorapeople.org/ the latest iso
- RPM & SRPMS :
Version of Fedlet taken into account
https://www.happyassassin.net/2014/09/12/new-fedlet-build-finally/In virtualbox:
- 21h39 boot
- 21h40 choose in menu
- 21h42 sausage
- 21h43 logs then a sausage
- 21h44 gnome available and activities can be launched
- hmmm did not choose language nor keyboard o_O so well, it's US... qwerty... for live
Live install
- 22:24 begin install
- 22:27 admin password and admin user defined
- 22:28 install 20%
- 22h38 install stopped at 57% for an unknown reason o_O
- 22h51 begin new install
- 23h11 install seems finished
Install on an SDcard may have worked (though anaconda ended with an error), but it would not boot from UEFI o_O even though I played with bcdedit to duplicate EFI/fedora under EFS windows partition and add an entry for another operating system. I suppose the SDcard is not seen by the UEFI o_O (though I cannot check, did not find the boot logs /o\)
new install on an USB key
well, I've got a 16 GB USB 3.0 key, I hope it will do as the SDcard installation could not boot :/hmmmm aborted: I suppose the hub disconnected either usb key or mouse or network... randomly

New install on 2014-10-01
version taken into account: https://www.happyassassin.net/2014/09/29/fedlet-2014-09-29-released/using a 4 GB USB-key:
dd if=20140929-fedlet-i686.iso of=/dev/sdc bs=8M
The USB-key would not boot on the OTG USB connector, had to use the connection available on keyboard.
I used an OTG USB connection for keyboard (Bus 001 Device 004: ID 046d:c313 Logitech, Inc. Internet 350 Keyboard, though the virtual keyboard actually works), ethernet connection with USB-ethernet converter (Peabird aka Bus 001 Device 006: ID 9710:7830 MosChip Semiconductor MCS7830 10/100 Mbps Ethernet adapter), a mouse just in case (Bus 001 Device 005: ID 046d:c05b Logitech, Inc. M-U0004 810-001317 [B110 Optical USB Mouse])
Live USB of fedlet does boot on aspire switch 10
- touchpad: ok
- keyboard: KO (using usb keyboard)
- touchscreen: ok
- network: ? using OTG usb-ethernet converter
- sound: ?
- webcam. KO
- flip screen: KO
- USB: ok both for tablet micro-usb & keyboard-usb

New install on 2014-11-18
https://www.happyassassin.net/2014/11/11/new-fedlet-release-20141111-a-tip-for-kms-on-the-venue-8-pro-and-dealing-with-fedlet-updating-to-fedora-22/check Liveusb (it did not work correctly on my USB 3.0 key, I used my Mageia usb-card this time)
I use the OTG with a usb 2.0 hub :
- USB azerty keyboard
- Mageia USB card having fedlet-20141111 created with dd if=fedlet.iso of=/dev/sdd bs=8M (after unmounting the device under Mageia Linux)
- USB to ethernet converter in order to be sure to have Internet access at boot
Things to verify :
- KMS working (using Adam's trick
- wifi working
- installation correctly done on SDcard (make it bootable afterwards, editing the UEFI if needed...)
- rotation of screen
- verify that touchpad with synaptic is still working, making the keyboard work would be a plus, having the disk recognized too
real installation to use the tablet
I want to use it as a tablet: installation has to be done on the primary storage or on the secondary SDcard, not an usb-key which would depend on the keyboard being plugged.- touchpad and touchscreen work, with virtual keyboard available, that should do it
- wifi would be a plus
some tuning remaining to do
- limit the iso to < 1 GB so that I can use my old usb-keys and not my 4 GB usb-keys (I had data on these!)
- qwerty by default: choosing the keyboard at boot would be fine can be changed afterwards in gnome/configuration/keyboard (or you can get used to qwerty layout...)
- timezone is a bit more problematic as it propagates after a reboot to windows o_O
- tap to click would be better by default in gnome, that's the usual case on laptop and tablet, one click, two clicks, three, just do it, that's easily fixed in the gnome control center for mouse and touchpad, add natural scrolling too
- firefox:
- scrolling: there may be an extension for this
- dictionary: include french
- adblock, otherwise the web is not the same
- hardware detected: type ‘lspci -nn’, ‘lsusb’, and ‘ls -lR /sys/bus/sdio/devices’
new install in october 2015
Take into account latest version:- at https://www.happyassassin.net/fedlet-a-fedora-remix-for-bay-trail-tablets/ (2015-08-10 version)
- which is documented at https://www.happyassassin.net/2015/08/10/fedlet-2015-08-10-available/ (seems very experimental for installation, firefox not showing virtual keyboard ?! Use epiphany instead o_O).
